The Darwin Autonomous Shuttle (DAS) is operated by Darwin Innovation Group, a research and development company working to enhance connectivity by combining 5G and satellite communications.
The shuttle itself was created by Navya, a French company specialising in the development of autonomous vehicles. The DAS service was kicked off in 2021, but similar self-driving Navya shuttles have transported tens of thousands of passengers around the Swiss town of Sion since 2016.
In addition to helping people get around Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, the DAS service functions as an autonomous vehicle trial. With the information we gather from this shuttle service, we hope to help move the UK towards a future where everyone can benefit from autonomous transport.
